As part of their new Great Hall Live series, Panorama Mountain Resort will present Ski Bum: The Musical on Saturday, February 25th, 2012.
Ski Bum: The Musical is a production of Rossland, BC’s Iron Mountain Theatre, a non-profit venture that locally produces and tours professional, original musical theatre works. Originally founded by 4 talented young people, they now have 4 shows to their credit and rave reviews wherever they perform.
The musical is a character-driven, winter-inspired homage to the dirtbags, debutants, lurkers and posers constantly in search of bottomless ‘pow’ (powder snow). Written by Tyler Austin Bradley and Mark Pollard, directed by Shane Snow and with music by Nadine Tremblay, the comedy pokes fun at musical theatre while at the same time, highlighting the trials and tribulations faced by a variety of mountain lovers. It’s mountain culture amplified by song, dance and story. It’s great family entertainment and everyone is invited to enjoy the show.
The musical has a 4-person cast with each player in multiple roles that depict characters of mountain culture life in their purest form.
Nadine Tremblay is a graduate of the Vancouver Community College Opera diploma program, has a Certificate of Performing Arts from the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, has played the part of Maria in a Rossland Light Opera Players’ production of The Sound of Music and produces and performs in her independent production company, called Company Jump which is a tribute to the Andrews sisters. She teaches voice and dance in the West Kootenays and is Theatre Manager at the Charles Bailey Theatre in Trail, BC.
R J Peters is a graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts and Red Deer College performing arts programs and has worked as an actor, designer and director for the last 10 years. His impressive resume includes acting in productions of Canadian Comedy Cabaret (Smile Theatre), Oil Rush (Victoria Petrolia Playhouse), Emily (The Gateway), The Inspector General, Bye Bye Birdie (Talk is Free Theatre), Fort Steele, Anne of Green Gables (Kaleidoscope Theatre) and many more. He has designed sets and costumes for such productions as: Shumskawlsing (Talk Is Free Theatre), The Shape Of Things (Volition), A Mid-Summer Nights Dream and Into The Woods (Company ‘C’), Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet, (Canadian College of Performing Arts) — and these are just a few.
Mark Pollard has a BSc degree in linguistics from the University of Victoria and an MA from the University of Toronto. He brings to the project a precise and creative writing style, coupled with a goal-oriented attitude. Most recently, Mark wrote and performed in the new 8-minute musical theatre production, A Tribute to Mining that takes a look at Rossland’s mining history. With Iron Mountain, Mark’s writing skill, as well as his natural performing energy, is utilized to the fullest.
An 8-year vereran of professional musical theatre, Jane Gaudet has an honors degree from the Canadian College of Performing Arts and has co-founded her own production company, Gotta Getta. She toured North America with The Story Theatre Company and has worked for the Belfry Theatre, Kaleidoscope Theatre, Okanagan Stage, and The Royal British Columbia Museum, plus with Jessie Award-winning director Shane Snow as costume designer and performer.
Of Ski Bum: The Musical, Anita Hallewas said in a special to the Revelstoke Times Review, “..[a] brilliant comic piece… As far as spoof musicals go (and there are more than probably most people would expect) this one’s gnarly. Rossland’s Iron Mountain Theatre, with a mandate to produce and tour original musical theatre, [has] landed an epic 30-footer of powder-heaven with style.
The show begins at 8pm in the Great Hall at Panorama Mountain Village. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at 1-800-663-2929 or at Panorama’s Guest Services.
