Wolverine research
Noninvasive genetic surveys of wolverines are giving scientists some preliminary answers on how many wolverines may live in Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks.
Dr. Anthony Clevenger and his team are heading into their final survey of wolverines in the Canadian mountain parks.
The data will be used to conduct the first assessment of highway effects on wolverine population connectivity and will have important implications for how highways are managed throughout wolverine range in the northern US Rockies and Canada.
The main emphasis for research on wolverines is for the twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway but research is also being carried out in Kootenay National Park. Next winter (2012-13) they will repeat their survey over 6000 square kilometres in Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks
