Jan 22-23, Radium –
A loppet? What is a ‘loppet’, you ask? It is an odd sort of word and although it hasn’t found its way into the Merriam-Webster dictionary yet, it means a gathering of skiers.
Whether you come for some serious competition or just to enjoy two great days on the slopes in some of the world’s most spectacular surroundings, you are invited to the 2nd Annual Nordic Loppet Weekend event at Nipika Mountain Resort in Radium Hot Springs. Mark January 22 and 23, 2011 on your calendar and prepare for a weekend to end them all!
Co-hosted by Nipika Resort and Toby Creek Nordic Club, the event combines the 30-km Nipika Classic Loppet with the 20-km Toby Creek Nordic Skate Loppet — two events which for many years were held on separate weekends. Last year the planners of the event decided to combine the two into a fabulous weekend of fun and festivities. It was such a success that it is now an annual event. Great skiing, great friends, great frivolity and a huge awards banquet at the end. There are fantastic door prizes to be won as well.
The 30-km classic diagonal stride loppet is on Saturday and the 20-km free-style skate loppet is on Sunday. Kids have their own race too, on Saturday. Although many of the participants will be seriously interested in the competition part, a great many families and individuals will be enjoying the fun and frolic in the crisp mountain air.
You can register online for the event at http://www.zone4.ca or contact Darren Tamelin by email at president @tobycreeknordic.ca for discount codes or if you would like to be a volunteer. Looking forward to seeing you there!
