Apr 24, Invermere –

On Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, Strands Old House Restaurant in Invermere is inviting you and your family to come and celebrate a traditional Easter, complete with turkey and all the trimmings and including the annual Strand’s Easter egg hunt.

Well-known in the valley for its superb cuisine, Strand’s is planning to outdo themselves this year (as if that could be possible!) with a spectacular dinner in the old-fashioned way. We think a sneak preview of the menu is in order:

Strands Easter Dinner Menu

Choose one to start
• Banana squash orange and ginger bisque
• House salad
• Caesar salad
• Spinach Caesar salad

Main course
• Roast turkey with all the trimmings

And then – dessert…wow!
• Apple and huckleberry strudel
With hot vanilla sauce and peach sorbet!

The Easter egg hunt for the children will start at 5pm and continue during the evening. “The idea is that you can come and enjoy dinner at Strand’s while you watch the kids collecting eggs outside on the lawn,” says Tony Wood, owner of the restaurant.

The annual Easter egg hunt has been a tradition at Strand’s for over 20 years. When his own children were young, Tony hid Easter eggs in his yard and loved watching their delight and excitement as they searched for the springtime treasures. In the years to follow, their backyard filled each Easter Sunday with the children of friends and neighbors as well, and the hunt, which had by this time become a family tradition, got bigger and bigger.

Eventually, as the Wood children grew up, Tony moved the hunt to the garden at Strands and invited the public to come along and celebrate with them. Each year he ‘hides’ between three and four hundred eggs, making the Easter egg hunt a memorable event in the Columbia Valley.
