July 23, Invermere –

What is the first thing you think about when someone mentions summer? A day of fun at the beach, of course! Beach means water and in the Columbia Valley, water very often means beautiful Lake Windermere.

People celebrate Lake Windermere in many ways: they paddle, sail and ski on top of it, they fish in every season, they swim in its clear and refreshing waters and they build sand castles on its beaches. People hike around its shores, they paint pictures of it and photograph its beauty.

And what better way to celebrate this beloved lake than with an annual Regatta! In July each year, to culminate Invermere’s four-day Summerlude festival, The Lake Windermere Ambassadors host a regatta It’s a huge party and everyone’s invited to come down to the shores of Lake Windermere for an afternoon of fun and frolic at Kinsmen Beach. Hundreds of eager folks come for an afternoon of sailing and swimming races, sand-art contests, a ‘love-tour-lake’ photo contest, a volleyball tournament and other beach and water activities. There are prizes for each event and all the events are free!

Generous sponsorship by Columbia Basin Trust, Columbia Valley Community Foundation, the District of Invermere and the Regional District of East Kootenay make this event a memorable day of fun at the beach for everyone. Early registration is encouraged for those who wish to participate in the actual regatta –- especially the sailboat race. See our events calendar for registration dates and photo contest submission deadline.
