Windermere Fall Fair and Scarecrow Festival
When fall is in the air, what could possibly be a better way to celebrate this glorious season than with an old-fashioned country fair? The community of Windermere knows just how to host the best one ever!
Early in September each year, the Windermere Community Association’s Fall Fair and Scarecrow Festival brings visiitors of all ages from near and far. By the time you arrive, the judges will have made their decisions and the community hall will be filled to the brim with displays of the winning entries in a multitude of categories, all proudly sporting their ribbons. Every kind of vegetable and fruit that can possibly be grown in local home gardens, jams and jellies, pickles (oh, those garlic pickles!), home baking, canning, herbs, flowers, photography and so much more, have been judged and found to be the very best. And the displays of the winning quilts give testimony to the amazing talent of valley quilters.
Outdoors, you can watch demonstrations of bent-willow furniture making, wood-carving, blacksmithing, etc. and admire and purchase the beautiful hand-made jewellery, knitted items, sewing and more. Delightful scarecrows are displayed all around the grounds, unique and hand-made by creative individuals, families or businesses and all entered into the competition.
There are games and contests for the kids, with a dog show, face painting, fish tank, clowns, etc. And all the while, talented local musicians keep toes tapping and add that special fall-fair atmosphere.
If you are going to be in the valley in early September, plan to come and celebrate the harvest season with the friendly folks in Windermere. You can find out dates and times at http://www.windermerecommunity.ca/fair.htm. We guarantee you’ll be glad you came!
