Columbia Salmon Festival

The second annual Columbia Salmon Festival will be held September 28th to September 30th at various locations throughout the Columbia Valley. The festival’s mission is to help build public understanding of the history and demise of the salmon, as well as showcase the prospects and challenges with restoring salmon to the Columbia Valley.
Prior to the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam in 1942 (and other dams downstream) thousands of salmon returned each year to Lake Windermere and Columbia Lake. Records indicate that many salmon in the Columbia River weighed over 40 pounds.

One of the major attractions of the season at Fort Steele each year is the Kootenay Country Fair. This year the fair will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Bring the whole family and join hundreds of folks for a real old-fashioned country event just bursting with the flavours of the harvest season.
The gates open at 9am, just in time for breakfast –- a pancake breakfast, of course! It’s the only way to begin a whole day of great activities for everyone.

Art from the Attic

For the second year in a row, Art From the Attic will be taking place in Invermere at the Community Centre. The event, which raises much needed funds to support the Columbia Valley Arts Council and the Invermere Health Care Auxiliary, is a giant one-day sale of new and recycled art donations.
Held for the first time last year, Art From the Attic drew approximately 1,000 pieces of art and more than 1,200 eager art buyers looking to find an art bargain or an undiscovered masterpiece.
The event will take place on September 1st, and volunteers are predicting an even greater number of donations this year. Last year the sale raised $15,400, which was divided equally between CV Arts and the Health Care Auxiliary.
