Summit Trail Makers blaze the way

Are you a backcountry user who’d like to give back to the local hiking community, and meet some potential hiking partners in the process? If so, come out for the Annual General Meeting of the Summit Trail Makers’ Society and see how you can not only help maintain trails, but rub shoulders with like-minded individuals willing to share their knowledge of the vast network of trails in the region.

Rocky Mountain Sports Camp
July 11 – Aug 19, Invermere –
Parents, take heart! The Rocky Mountain Sports Camp is once again offering boys and girls from ages 6 to 12 years fun-filled days with lots of healthful activities, an opportunity to learn new skills and develop teamwork. No prior experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. Daily drop-ins are welcome.
The Monday-to-Friday camps will be held at J.A. Laird School in Invermere from 9am until 4pm and will run during the weeks of July 11 to 15, July 18 to 22, July 25 to 29, August 8 to 12 and August 15 to 19. You may register your child by the week or by the day. Registration by the week is $125, or $30 per day.

Try freestyle at Pano
Kids in the Columbia Valley are getting the chance to try freestyle at Panorama Mountain Resort during spring break as part of a program that is making connections with local schools and communities in British Columbia.
Olympic skier and 2011 World Championship bronze medallist, Kristi Richards, visited, via interactive video conferencing sessions, nine schools across the province to promote freestyle skiing — one of them being Windermere Elementary School.
Thanks to BC Freestyle, not only schools but also local ski hills, are connecting with the program to introduce freestyle skiing to hundreds of youngsters with a program called Try Freestyle. Certified freestyle coaches will be brought to the ski hills to run half-day sessions for young skiers, giving them a start just like Kristi.
