RDEK moves forward with LWMP implementation
Following three Open Houses and preliminary discussions with community groups and stakeholders, the Regional District of East Kootenay is moving forward with the next steps in the implementation of the Lake Windermere Management Plan (LWMP).
“The Board has asked staff to draft new regulations for Lake Windermere,” says Area F Director Wendy Booth. “As part of this process, we have also asked for additional public consultation to ensure people have the opportunity to learn about the proposed regulations and share their thoughts and opinions.”

Parks Canada urging caution in the backcountry this weekend — current avalanche danger high in many places.
November 25, 2011 –- Parks Canada is strongly recommending visitors avoid avalanche areas this weekend by restricting their travel to simple terrain, track-set cross-country ski trails or within the boundaries of a ski resort. Unusually dangerous early season avalanche conditions are widespread at all elevations in many places in Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay, Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks in Alberta and British Columbia.

Panorama has snow!
Nov 24, 2011 — Zowie! Panorama Mountain has already received more than 169 cm of snow. That’s nearly 5½ feet folks!
To celebrate, Panorama Mountain Village will be opening on December 5 (earlier than its official opening day of December 9) with Sneak-a-Peak-Week to kick off the winter 2011-2012 season. “We just couldn’t keep all this snow to ourselves!” says Rick Jensen, President and CEO of Panorama Mountain Village Inc.
