Arts Station in Fernie

601 - 1st Avenue
Fernie,

The Arts Station in Fernie is a cultural hub in the city and the home of the Fernie District Arts Council. The building itself has a colorful history, first as a Canadian Pacific Railway Station dating  back to 1908 after a second fire in the town destroyed the previous station.

In 1991, volunteers joined forces to move the station just a few metres away from it’s original spot, then restored and refurbished the building, keeping as many of the original features as possible. For instance, the original railway station lobby is an art gallery today, displaying the works of local artists. The ticket office is now a restaurant and the baggage room has become a 100-seat theatre. Upstairs at The Arts Station are studios for artisans such as painters, quilters, etc. In the basement are studios for potters and musicians.

The Arts Station is a popular venue for school tours, workshops, concerts, films, theatre, children’s activities and more through the year.

It’s a wonderful place to visit – there’s always something new to see and do.
