John McCarthy — Re/Max Invermere Columbia Valley real estate
Columbia Valley, BC realtor, John McCarthy started working in construction as a young man. He followed that experience with many years in all facets of the construction industry, from subdividing, to framing to finishing and selling the final product. Of course, it naturally followed that he would take his knowledge to the real estate table and so John became a realtor in Alberta.
In 1994, John, with his wife, Vilma and his 2 young children, Mitchell and Shannon, moved to the Columbia Valley, BC where, where Vilma still works as a nurse at the local hospital, and the whole family became involved with the children’s sports. Then, in 2004, he put his vast knowledge of home construction to work as a realtor and today he is currently managing broker with Re/Max Invermere.

High Country Auctions
The story of High Country Auctions began a long time ago when Erhard Lortscher (or ‘Tex’, as he is known to just about everyone in the Columbia Valley) lived in Brockville, Ontario and owned a fleet of coffee trucks which served the local construction sites, special events and also auctions.
Tex says, “I sort of slid into the auction business sideways!” He frequently set up his truck at local auctions and got to know the auctioneers pretty well. Before he knew it, the auctioneers were handing him the mike and letting him auction, and thus began a decades-long love of the business.

In the constantly evolving world of technology used for property sales and marketing, the fact that Geoff doesn’t have 10+ years of experience in older methods is probably one of his greatest assets. “I grew up using computers and I learn new things quickly. When I was in high school I actually did all of my classes on a laptop for two years as part of a computer immersion program,” says Geoff.
When he started in 2008, the real estate market turned for the worse and he had to work second jobs to ensure he could pay his real estate fees. “I worked a lot outside real estate at the beginning and it actually turned out to be an amazing opportunity for meeting people.
