One of the highlights of every summer season in Invermere, BC, is the weekly farmers’ market. On a typical summer Saturday morning, crowds of enthusiastic locals and visitors, close to 2,000 of them in fact, head on downtown early, pushing younger family members in their strollers, perhaps with the family pet along for the fresh air. They come for the merriment, the friendly atmosphere and the freshest, the best-quality locally produced produce, baking, arts and crafts. They come to meet old friends and make new ones, to catch up on local gossip and to enjoy Invermere at its very best.

La Galeria II
Located just one block off the highway in Fairmont Hot Springs is a delightful gift shop. La Galeria II is a unique shopping experience, fulfilling the most discerning taste with hand-crafted treasures at affordable prices. Local artisan, Carolyn Barzilay, who purchased the shop in 2010, has added an artist’s touch to the already spectacular store. Carolyn has been a working member of the artists’ co-op at Village Arts in Invermere for twenty years and brings with her a wide array of artisans’ works.
Highlighted at La Galeria II are Carolyn’s own works, hand-painted glassware and porcelain. By blending spectacular colors she has mastered the creation of elegant, sophisticated stemware, porcelain mugs, glassware, decanters, candleholders and more. It’s a typical summer Saturday morning in Invermere and what is on the minds of about 2,000 residents and visitors to the valley? The Farmers’ Market, of course. And if you want to get the best, the freshest, the choicest locally grown produce, you don’t dally over breakfast because the crowds come early.
People of every age, many pushing the younger family members in strollers or bringing the family pet along for some fresh, early morning air, flock to this weekly market for a variety of reasons. Some line up for the fresh-baked breads, buns and pies. Many are looking for a special garden sculpture, or a hand-made garment knitted or sewn with loving care by a local crafter.
