Columbia Valley Transit
Columbia Valley Transit is a service provided by the Regional District of East Kootenay and BC Transit and operated by Olympus Stage Lines Ltd.
The service enables travelers to and from the various communities in the Columbia Valley to do so easily and inexpensively. People with medical appointments in other locations such as Cranbrook, travelers with mobility difficulties or shoppers wishing to access larger centres, find the community bus ideal. Although medical appointments have priority, everyone is welcome to use the service if space is available.
Buses are equipped with bike racks with a carrying capacity of two bicycles at a time which may be used during daylight hours only.

Integra Air announces flights between Edmonton and Cranbrook
May 29, 2011 — Recreational visitors to the Columbia Valley who live in northern Alberta and Kootenay residents who work in Alberta will soon be able to fly directly to and from Edmonton International Airport and Cranbrook’s Canadian Rockies International Airport.
Starting June 15, 2011, Lethbridge-based Integra Air will begin regularly scheduled flights, the first phase of a plan to service travelers who, up until now, have had to drive or take the bus, a lengthy and often stress-filled experience.
In the beginning, flights will run three days a week –- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays -– departing from Edmonton at 11:45am and from Cranbrook at 3:00pm. The trip is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. One-way cost of a flight will range from $189 to $239 plus taxes.

Driving with a BAC between 50 and 80 mg%
Behind the Wheel –
In 1977 BC established the limit of 50 mg% as the provincial limit on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) for drivers. When tested with an approved screening device drivers with a BAC over this limit received a 24 hour roadside prohibition. Relatively recently, this prohibition also included a 24 hour vehicle impoundment to go along with the prohibition.
Effective on September 20, 2010 the prohibition dealt to drivers with a BAC between 50 and 80 mg% (known as a warn) will change significantly. When tested with an approved screening device at roadside a driver who provides a breath sample that is analyzed as a warn will face a minimum 3 day driving prohibition, an administrative penalty of $200, a driver’s license reinstatement fee of $250, a 3 day vehicle impound and the ...Full story
