Platzl in Kimberley

Spokane Street
Kimberley,

The Platzl in Kimberley’s city centre is what readily comes to mind when one thinks of Kimberley BC.

Kimberley is widely known as the “City of Festivals” and the Bavarian-themed Platzl is the venue where most of the city’s signature festivals – and other community events, too – take place each year. Visitors to the Platzl during one of these festivals are usually completely enchanted to see artisan booths, street dancing, live music, parades and so much more lively activity, especially during the summer months.

Bordered by unique local shops, boutiques and restaurants, the Platzl’s pedestrian-only brick streets, water fountains, giant chess pieces, climbing wall and cute, hand-painted fire hydrants, draw thousands of visitors every year to this little oasis of downtown heaven.

The Platzl is also home to Canada’s largest free-standing cuckoo clock. Just pop a loonie into the clock – you will be delighted to see ‘Happy Hans’ emerge to greet you. Hans is a yodeling, mustachioed fellow in leather shorts and saluting you with a beer stein. He’s guaranteed to bring a smile to every face.
